Gone Fishing
He’s tried to get Gary Howey into fly fishing, but there was a slight problem with his backcast. Joey tells the story about going down to the Gulf coast to fish around the Chandeleur Islands. Joey loves fishing and talks about his most favorite fish to catch and the story behind the biggest fish he’s landed to date.
In the mist I saw a female figure, just the outline and shadow. I saw her and watched as the mist was swept away by an unseen force. Once it was gone so was the figure and with it the swamp came to life with the creatures of the night.

It sounded as if she was running, her high heels tapping wildly down the hall. “I’ll get you!” a man shouted, and the floor shook as he chased her. It was a big old place where nobody had lived for years. From time to time somebody would force open a window or a door and spend the night there. Three fishermen caught in a storm took shelter there one night.
I collapsed, my vision blackening, watching the rest of my crew shudder and fall with me, before everything went cold and dark. The Brazilian name for “the red fish,” known among scientific circles as the arapaima. If you’ve never heard of “the red fish” before now, then prepare yourself, because you won’t be forgetting it anytime soon. Felt the ‘call of the void’ as I’ve heard it called.
Just because a net is no longer used by fishers doesn’t mean it stops working. These nets continue to trap everything in their path, presenting a major problem for the health of our oceans and marine life. Hopefully, they’d learn to finally respect the red fish. “All they wanted to do was go fishing,” another said, shaking his head. For the first time in my life, I broke.
